What to expect at your first visit

Congratulations! You are one step closer to finding your child’s new dental home! Many children are nervous about dental visits because they don’t know what to expect and when you don’t know yourself, it’s hard to answer their questions. Exploring our website is a great first step. Here is more information to help prepare your child for their first visit to our kind and compassionate team.
      • Front Desk

Your first in-person interaction with our pediatric dentists will be at the front desk, where you will be greeted by a friendly, smiling face. Then, if you haven’t already downloaded and completed the forms available here, we’ll give you the forms to fill out while we are there to answer any questions you may have. For your convenience and your child’s enjoyment, while you are filling out these forms your child can have fun in our kids play area. We will also take a new-patient photo of your child for their record.

      • Kid’s Play Area

With a kid-friendly feel that includes the Bird House play area, where your children can have fun while waiting for one of our assistants to come and introduce themselves to you and your child.

      • Checkup

Before bringing your child back to an exam room to meet the doctor, our friendly assistant will take a few minutes to review our plans for the day and what you can expect. You are welcome to either join your child in the exam room to ask the doctor questions or enjoy a magazine in our waiting room. It’s entirely up to you.
We have an "Open Bay" room where three children can get cleanings done at once - sometimes kids feel more comfortable watching other kids do it too! Or, if you prefer, we also offer three private rooms.

      • Diagnostics

It’s important to have a baseline of your child’s oral health, so most of our new patients have radiographs taken if they are needed. We use digital x-rays, lead aprons & thyroid collars and follow the guidelines set forth by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry to minimize your child's radiation dosage. If you haven’t read about our assistants yet, we encourage you to visit the About Us page. There you’ll see that our team loves children and works hard to ensure they are calm and comfortable throughout every part of their dental appointment – especially through the x-ray process. We do this by talking to children at their level so they understand what to expect.

      • Patient Coordinator

If you have any additional questions about recommended treatments and how to best manage your insurance policy, our patient coordinators will help you navigate through them. From general questions about options to sending predetermination to your insurance provider, we want to know that you leave our office with all of your questions asked and answered. And of course, if you ever have additional questions, all you need to do is call.

      • Financial Coordination

When you have asked and had answered all of your dental care questions you will be brought back to the front desk where your child can once again enjoy the play area while our front desk team works with you to review your out-of-pocket expenses and file any pre-treatment estimates to your insurance company.
At our Bird Pediatric Dentistry, our goal is to make your whole family feel at home while we take care of your children’s needs so they are not scared and have a pleasant experience to look back on as they get older. We look forward to speaking with you.
